From continent to continent at supersonic speed, briefly in Beijing and two hours later in New York: a Chinese start-up wants to make this dream come true twenty years after the last flight of the Concorde. China’s Mach 4 jet Yunxing should be ready in 2027 – and will show the US where the hammer is.
Much work is also being done there to inherit the legacy of the legendary British-French supersonic jet – although none of the US projects are expected to be completed before 2030. Things should move faster at Beijing start-up Lingkong Tianxing Technology, which reported the first flight of a Yunxing prototype. The collected findings are currently being evaluated. The Chinese project is ambitious; no one has ever built a Mach 4 airplane with a top speed of 5,000 miles per hour. Which doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be possible…
