Way too hot… – Hallein zinc lifts only in operation for one day

Date:

The thaw is the major spoilsport on the Dürrnberg in the province of Salzburg. Hallein’s zinc lifts only operated for one day. In the future, the focus will be even more on the summer season.

It was an extremely brief pleasure! The Zinkenliften on the Dürrnberg were in operation for one day this winter. On December 23, people still hoped for good business during the Christmas holidays, but the sobering came on Christmas Eve. Heavy rains and temperatures well above freezing literally washed the slopes away.

The ski area has several snow cannons. But it is simply too hot for the production of artificial white these days.

Is the current situation a sign for the future? As reported, the Zinkenlifte – they belong to the municipality of Hallein – want to focus even more on the summer season in the future. In addition to the summer toboggan run, two mountain bike trails are built on site. As early as spring 2024, cyclists should be able to ride the slopes, subject to all official permits. The first talks with the Public Prosecutor for the Environment have already taken place.

Zinkenlifte director Andreas Klimitsch expects an additional income of 400,000 euros. “With this we want to generate turnover in the months when hardly anything is happening at the moment,” he says. He mainly means spring. In the current conditions, mountain bikers would certainly have fun too. . .
