Israel kills dozens of Palestinians in new attack in northern Gaza

Date:

It concerns an attack on a residential building where 70 displaced people took refuge. At the same time, Israel has carried out 145 attacks in Beirut in the past 24 hours.

Dozens of Palestinians were killed and injured this morning following the Israeli airstrike on a five-storey residential building in the besieged city of Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, where local sources said 70 displaced people were being housed, Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

Initial reports indicate that the airstrike, carried out by Israeli fighter jets, caused extensive damage to the building, which collapsed and “caused a significant number of casualties among innocent civilians, including children and women,” Wafa said on Sunday.

The exact number of victims is still unknown, because rescue teams cannot reach the attack area due to the extensive destruction and continuous Israeli air strikes.

In early October, Israeli forces resumed their offensive against northern Gaza for the third time, leading to a military encirclement and continued bombardment aimed, according to military sources, at preventing Hamas from regrouping in that area.

About 2,000 Palestinians have died since then, and the three main hospitals in the area, which have also been attacked by Israel (Kamal Adwan, Indonesian and Al Awda), are partially functioning.

Added to this is the virtual no humanitarian aid who entered northern Gaza in October and could lead to an “imminent” famine, as several international organizations, including the UN, have warned in recent days.

The ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza since October 2023 has already caused more than 43,800 documented deaths – about 70% women and children – and more than 103,600 injuries, although these are conservative figures as thousands of victims lie under tons of rubble.

145 airstrikes in Beirut

At the same time, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) issued evacuation orders for three buildings and their surroundings in southern Beirut this Sunday, recommending that Lebanese keep a distance of more than 500 meters, the same day that Lebanese Environment Minister Nasser Yassin , has estimated the number of Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours at 145.

The Lebanese Health Ministry reported on Saturday that there have now been 3,452 deaths as a result of the Israeli invasion, after seven more deaths were reported on Friday. There are also 14,664 injuries, including 65 on Friday.
