A terrible tragedy has occurred in Baden-Württemberg: after a night fire in a residential building, three bodies were found in the ruins of the fire. Investigators do not rule out that these are three children aged 4, 8 and 14 – the three had been reported missing.

As police headquarters in Offenburg explained on Thursday, firefighters rescuers found three bodies in the former hotel that was used as a residential building. Forensic pathologists are now investigating whether the three missing children are involved.

There were 16 people in the building during the fire
The fire broke out Thursday evening of unknown cause. The building in the municipality of Gernsbach was completely destroyed. There were at least 16 people in the building at the time of the fire. Initial reports mentioned three injured residents and an injured police officer who had been taken to clinics.

Young people and children managed to save themselves on the roof
According to the investigation, six people would have stayed in the attic. Three children and young people aged 17, 14 and one year were able to escape the flames to the roof and were rescued by the emergency services. Three other children were initially missing. The extinguishing work lasted until Thursday morning.

According to the information, the building is in acute danger of collapse and cannot be entered, which is why rescuers from the fire brigade were deployed. They are looking to see if there are any other bodies in the house. The detective has launched an investigation.
