Shock in St. Georgen near Grieskirchen. Mayor Karl “Charly” Furthmair is dead. The politician died after a short, serious illness between the ages of 65. The ÖVP politician has been in office since 24 September 1992 and therefore one of the most long-term local leaders.
Even before the elections in 2021, Karl Furthmair announced his resignation before 2025. He has finally had the office since 1992. Unfortunately, he was no longer able to carry out the transfer of the office, which was planned for a long time to transfer to his desired successor Gerald Nußbichler. He died after a short, serious illness. He leaves wife Roswitha and his mother Greti. Furthmair was a two -time father and four times grandfather.
Great dedication to the community
Furthmair has strongly shaped the community and the region. Under his leadership, together with Grieskirchen and Tollet, one of the first inter -municipal business parks was implemented. Until the end he campaigned for projects such as the location of the new fire station in Tolleterau and a cycle path to the business development area.
