Russia pulverizes the Donbas

Date:

announces that it killed 350 Ukrainian soldiers in an attack on the Mykolaiv shipyard after bombing the city of Sumy 66 times in one day

Russia has turned Donbas into a firestorm. The defense ministry claims to have bombed a shipyard in Mykolaiv in recent hours that allegedly killed more than 350 Ukrainian soldiers. If confirmed, the figure would be one of the bloodiest attacks on record against local positions since the occupying forces changed their strategy and concentrated on invading the areas to the east and south of the country. According to the Kremlin, many of the victims were part of some 20 military units assigned to protect the city and its naval facilities.

Russian grenades and rockets hit Mykolaiv 28 times in less than a day. The Ukrainian executive has reported the deaths of five civilians but has not confirmed or denied the possible massacre at the shipyard. Nor is there any reference to a bombing raid in which 70 soldiers, according to the invading army, were said to have lost their lives after being hit by their artillery while at a troop concentration point east of this city. Mykolaiv is considered the gateway to Odessa: In April, Russia dropped cluster bombs on its buildings, killing 11 and injuring nearly 50. The International Court of Justice is analyzing this case in view of the evidence that the military could use prohibited weapons.

Russia is focused on pulverizing Donbas and its environs. Especially the areas of the Donetsk province that it has not conquered. The waves of artillery are “constant” and have razed buildings and roads to the ground, forcing the population to “remain hidden in the cellars” given the impossibility of escape and the fear of shells falling on their homes while they sleep. . In 24 hours, the city of Sumy, in the northeast of the country, has been bombed no less than 66 times, according to the governor, Dmytro Zhyvytsky, causing serious damage to the rural communities of Znob-Novhorodske, Shalyhine, Bilopillia and Krasnopillia.

Intelligence analyzes suggest that Moscow is preparing a major operation to capture the entire area of Donetsk, place by place. Kyiv believes the attacks are also the Kremlin’s response to the damage the Ukrainian military has inflicted on its logistics in recent days thanks to the latest US shipment of Himars missiles. The president himself, Volodímir Zelensky, emphasized on Wednesday the value of the latest weapons recently received to fend off Russian incursions. According to the General Staff, these missiles destroyed two ammunition depots on Tuesday, one of which was so large that the explosions of the stored material lasted 12 hours, in southern Ukraine. Thirty Russian soldiers were killed in this operation, which was carried out with combat aircraft.

Meanwhile, rescue teams continue to find bodies in the wreckage of the building that was destroyed in a Russian missile attack in Chasiv Yar last weekend. The teams have found four bodies under the rubble and the balance currently stands at 45 dead.
