Attempted murder suspected – ambulance loses wheels at flashing lights

Date:

An ambulance lost two tires during a nighttime operation in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. An accident followed, in which fortunately all occupants were unharmed. The homicide squad is now tasked with finding out if anyone tampered with the vehicle.

On Monday evening, the emergency vehicle with blue lights and sirens drove into Hiddenhausen, northwest of Bielefeld, to take a patient to a hospital. At around 1.20 am the wheels suddenly said goodbye to the double wheels on the left rear. The car rolled for another 100 meters before coming to a stop.

Unknown person allegedly loosened wheel bolts
Two paramedics and the patient in the car survived the accident without any injuries, but there was damage to the ambulance. Even the homicide department was called in after the dangerous incident: they had to investigate whether someone had loosened the wheel bolts of the ambulance.

In any case, it cannot be ruled out that the car has been tampered with. “Since there is a suspicion of attempted murder, a Bielefeld murder committee has taken over the investigation,” police said. They are also hoping for information from the public to clarify the possible attack.

Police announced the locations of the ambulances
The car was left unattended in the morning in front of a nursing home in Hiddenhausen and in front of a hospital in Bünde and in the afternoon on Bahnhofstrasse in Bünde. He then stood at the rescue station on Dünner Strasse in Bünde from 2 p.m. to midnight, until he went on a final mission in Meierhofstrasse in Kirchlengern. The accident happened shortly afterwards.
