Gruesome discovery in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt: two dead babies were discovered in an apartment. A request for detention has now been submitted against the 29-year-old mother.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, it is not yet clear whether it is murder. The two babies were discovered in an apartment in Wittenberg on the night of Sunday to Monday.
As the newspaper ‘Bild’ reported, the mother was taken to hospital with stomach pains a few hours before the discovery.
Grandmother found the two babies in bags
According to information from the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”, the grandmother found the dead babies when she was looking for clothes for the suspected mother. There were bags containing two babies in the bathtub. The grandmother immediately alerted the police. According to researchers, it concerns two girls, probably twins.
An autopsy has already been ordered
An autopsy will be performed on the two babies on Tuesday. The prosecutor emphasized that the two girls were certainly alive after birth. A request for detention has been filed against the mother.
