Gutacher convinces: – Mass murderer Breivik is not mentally ill

Date:

According to experts, Norwegian right-wing terrorist Anders Behring Breivik does not suffer from a mental illness. In a new report, two experts said the 45-year-old was not considered ill, psychotic or mentally ill, according to news agency NTB.

Psychologist Kåre Nonstad and psychiatrist Pia Jorde Løvgren believe that Breivik carried out the terrorist attacks in Oslo and on the island of Utøya on July 22, 2011, killing a total of 77 people, due to his political radicalization, but that he also has narcissistic traits. According to the NTB, the two reported this on the second day of a court hearing in Ringerike prison.

Mass murderer hopes to be released
Breivik has been investigating since Tuesday whether he can be released early on parole. The hearing will last until Thursday and a ruling is not expected until a later date. The chance that Breivik will be released is small.

First new report since the conviction in 2012
Løvgren and Nonstad’s report, which is more than 100 pages long, represents the first new assessment of Breivik since his conviction in 2012. Several diagnoses have been made in the past regarding the Utøya attacker’s mental health, and there questions have repeatedly arisen about his mental health. However, experts new to the case do not believe there is a basis to classify the 45-year-old as mentally incompetent.

The first dismissal request in 2022 was unsuccessful
This is Breivik’s second attempt at parole. He is serving a 21-year prison sentence, the maximum sentence at the time he committed his crimes, which could be extended as long as he is considered a threat to society.

Breivik promises peaceful struggle for ‘white supremacy’
Breivik could have been released on parole after serving the first ten years of his sentence. However, his first attempt to be released in 2022 was unsuccessful. During that hearing, Breivik argued that he had put the violence behind him, but had not given up his neo-Nazi sympathies. He said only that he would continue his fight for “white supremacy” through “peaceful means.”
