For unknown reasons, a 70-year-old driver drove his car into the oncoming lane on Monday morning near St. Andrä in Carinthia. There he crashed into a truck.
The accident happened just after 7:30 am on Gemmersdorfer Straße in Paierdorf. As the 70-year-old pulled into the oncoming lane, he hit the truck of a 46-year-old Slovenian. “After the collision with the truck, he left the road and fell over a slope,” the police said. “The car remained on the passenger side in the adjacent meadow.” The driver, who responded, was trapped and unable to free himself.
With the rescue helicopter to the hospital
After a short time, the emergency services of the alarmed fire brigade were able to free the driver from his car with rescue scissors. After the first aid, the man eventually flew with the C12 rescue helicopter to the clinic in Klagenfurt.
The truck driver was not injured, but his truck was also badly damaged. In addition to rescue and police, the volunteer fire brigades from St. Andrä, Gemmersdorf, Eitweg and St. Georgen were also deployed for this mission. Gemmersdorfer Straße was closed during the operation, but is now freely passable again.
