“If the inn dies, the place dies” is the name of the series “Krone”, in which we visit traditional Tyrolean inns. The residents of Vils did not allow modernity to take away their last inn. After years of sleep, the “Black Eagle” rose like a phoenix from the ashes. What and who is behind it.
More than 300 years ago, the Schwarzer Adler inn spread its wings for the first time with its own brewery. At the beginning of the 19th century, Maura Stadelmayer started building the current “Black Eagle” in her herb garden at the lower city gate – Vils received city rights in 1327; the house name “Maura” still exists. It was taken over by the Schretter family in 1932 and left without a successor about 80 years later. The eagle’s wings became lame and the traditional inn was on the verge of extinction!
