Family was concerned
The man did not return from his agricultural work as usual on Wednesday evening. His wife (64) and his sons initially went looking, but called the police around 8:45 p.m. because both the old farmer’s vehicles and his mobile phone were at home.

In the days before the accident, the wood chip stove was defective, so the search quickly focused on the area around this power plant. There a hole was discovered under which the screw conveyor of the heating system was located. The fire brigade moved the wood chips aside and the 70-year-old was eventually found at a depth of two to eight feet. The farmer probably fell into the hole when he tried to loosen the pile of wood chips with an iron bar. All help came too late for him.
The crisis intervention team cared for the relatives late in the evening. The farmer is survived by his wife, three sons, a daughter and several grandchildren. “The whole family always helped together,” said local boss Baumgartner after the blow of fate.

The estate is one of three centuries-old farms from which the town of Neuhofen once arose. One of the sons supplemented agriculture by growing vegetables.
