A 63-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car in Gnas (southeast Styria) on Thursday afternoon. The man suffered fatal injuries.
The pedestrian was driving on the federal road from Gnas towards Katzendorf around 5:45 p.m. and apparently wanted to cross from the left side of the road. A 38-year-old was driving his car in the same direction and struck the pedestrian for an unknown reason.
Died on the spot
The 63-year-old was seriously injured in the collision. First aid measures and intensive resuscitation efforts that were immediately initiated were no longer able to help him and he died at the scene of the accident.
The driver was not injured, but suffered shock and was treated by the crisis intervention team. A total of eleven members of the Poppendorf volunteer fire brigade were deployed with two vehicles.
