After Friday’s tragic accident in the district of Freistadt (Upper Austria), in which a nine-year-old partially ran over his own mother with a tractor, there will be – at least for now – no criminal consequences.
“No complaints will be filed. The police will report to the public prosecutor’s office. They must then decide whether to continue the investigation,” said police spokesman Friedrich Stadlmayr on Saturday. In any case, the nine-year-old herself could not be prosecuted.
The accident happened Friday afternoon. Shortly before 4:30 p.m., the boy would reverse the tractor out of a garage for mowing work. His mother stood next to the tractor cab and gave him instructions. But instead of backing up, the tractor would have “jumped forward” after starting, the boy later told police. The 45-year-old came partially under the left rear tire.
Rescue helicopter took mother to hospital
According to initial assessments, the woman sustained injuries to her hip, right thigh and foot, as well as abrasions to her back. The rescue helicopter “C10” flew the injured to the UKH Linz after the emergency medical team’s first aid and rescue. The seriousness of their injuries was unknown on Saturday.
