On the A2 near Edelschrott (Styria), police officers pulled away a Polish tanker that had loaded 24 tons of corrosive liquid. However, the tank was not suitable for the contents transported.
A few days ago, police officers from the State Transport Department, Dangerous Goods Department, checked a Polish tanker carrying 24 tons of a corrosive liquid (chlorite solution). The corrosive substance is said to have been transported from Italy to Poland. The tank used was not suitable for the contents to be transported and is therefore not approved.
The police officers prohibited further travel on site for security reasons and informed the responsible Voitsberg district authority. A temporary transport ban was ordered. The tanker was therefore no longer allowed to be put into service until the defects were remedied.
Tank needed to be refilled
For days the Polish shipping company failed to organize a suitable tank for transport. The authorities then ordered that the entire contents of the tanker be transferred into suitable containers in a complex process.
This happened on the premises of a Styrian company to prevent danger to people and the environment. Only when everything complied with the regulations was the transport allowed to continue after a week of standstill and a deposit. The driver and the Polish shipping company are reported to the Voitsberg district administration.
