The 38-year-old priest, who allegedly tried to produce methamphetamine for resale in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria, has been released. The Pole and his Iraqi accomplices (30) risk another sentence next year.
At the request of the “Krone”, even lawyer Astrid Wagner was surprised by the current developments in the Radoslaw P case. The fact is: the pastor who, according to the public prosecutor, set up a drug laboratory in his official residence in Gmünd and. produced large quantities of methylafetamine would be released again.
According to initial reports, the well-known 38-year-old was released on Friday after a new detention hearing. Wagner emphasizes: “The release shows that the church will be left behind in the village during the trial. The report on the purity of the medicines is still missing. We are now waiting for the trial next year.”
Priest relieved of his duties
The case became known last July and a search was carried out in the parsonage concerned on behalf of the Krems Public Prosecution Service. Drug precursors and laboratory equipment, among other things, were discovered and seized.
The priest was “immediately relieved of his duties in the diocese of St. Pölten” and further “banned from any pastoral activity in the diocese,” said a statement from the diocese of St. Pölten at the time. The man of God is a priest of the Archdiocese of Warsaw, which in turn promised further steps after a court ruling.
Punishment for sure, including drug treatment
P. would have purified himself and wanted to start a new life. “Of course he will receive a punishment, but it will probably be limited because of his integrity. “I have already arranged a therapy place for him, maybe he will write another book,” concludes lawyer Wagner.
But his flock may not be so happy with the news. According to the tenor from Lower Austria, the door to a return to the Waldviertel is closed.
