Violent scenes in Turkey: On Sunday, a Russian passenger plane caught fire after landing at Antalya airport.
The Turkish Ministry of Transport announced in the evening that all landings in Antalya were therefore prohibited. The engine of a Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger plane had previously caught fire. A video shared by news site Airport Haber showed rescuers arriving at the scene of the fire as flames and smoke rose from the engine.
According to the ministry, 89 passengers and six crew members were rescued from the burning plane. The fire broke out after the plane of the Russian company Azimuth Airlines landed. It landed in Antalya from the Russian Black Sea city of Sochi at 7:25 p.m. The landing ban should remain in force until 2 a.m. (CET).
