It is now clear what caused the fire in the middle of the city center of Ried on Sunday. Two friends (38, 27) wanted to make fireworks in an apartment. However, that went wrong and an explosion followed and then a fire.
On Sunday around 2:20 p.m., a fire broke out in an apartment complex in the center of Ried. When police arrived, firefighters were already extinguishing the fire in the apartment of a 38-year-old.
Explosion caused fire
According to him, he wanted to make fireworks and mixed 800 grams of chemicals in powder form using a homemade ball mill – consisting of a cardboard tube with a diameter of 1,500 millimeters and a length of 300 millimeters. For reasons still unclear, the chemical mixture ignited and led to an explosion that ultimately caused the fire.
The 38-year-old tried in vain to extinguish the fire; the house burned down completely. A 27-year-old friend of the tenant, who was also in the apartment, and the 38-year-old were taken to the Ried im Innkreis hospital with injuries of an unknown nature.
