The series of bank robberies in Tyrol continues unabated: late Thursday morning, a bank in the fortress town of Kufstein was robbed. According to the first information from the police, the apparently armed perpetrator is on the run. A major manhunt was launched.
As the police described in response to questions from “Krone”, a Sparkasse branch in Kufstein was robbed late Thursday morning, around 11:20 am. “The perpetrator was armed with a gun and masked,” investigators said. He threatened the employees with a gun and demanded they hand over cash.
The perpetrator then ran out of the bank and fled south on foot, investigators said. No further details are known at this time.
An alarm search was started
In any case, an alarm search was immediately started in and around Kufstein. Heavily armed police officers monitor important traffic connections and highway entrances and exits.
Explosive: The same branch in Sparkasse was the scene of an armed robbery in January this year.
A whole series of bank robberies in Tyrol
In Tyrol, and especially in Innsbruck, nine bank robberies had already taken place within a year. Several suspects have now been arrested.
For example, according to the Public Prosecution Service, a duo arrested in early July after a bank robbery in Innsbruck were also suspected of being responsible for two more robberies in March and April at bank branches in the capital.
At the beginning of September, a strange coup took place when an initially unknown perpetrator robbed a ‘cashless’ bank on Mitterweg in Innsbruck. At the end of October, a Russian was identified as a suspect.
