Shock in Berlin: Palliative care doctor is said to have killed eight patients

Date:

A Berlin palliative care doctor is suspected of killing at least eight patients by administering deadly drug cocktails. The public prosecutor sees ‘murder intent’ as a motive.

The man is said to have killed significantly more people than initially thought. After further investigation, the Berlin public prosecutor’s office currently believes there are at least eight victims and is investigating murder, a spokesperson said.

Previously, documents from other patients of the doctor had been reviewed and two more bodies had been exhumed and examined by forensic medicine.

“Mixture of different medicines”
The Public Prosecution Service then assumes that the 40-year-old is also responsible for the deaths of two women aged 70 and 61 and two men aged 70 and 83. It is said that he administered a “mixture of different drugs” to those affected. The doctor has been in custody since early August.

He was originally suspected of killing four patients between the ages of 72 and 94 in their apartments. He then allegedly set a fire there to cover up the crimes. The investigation initially focused on manslaughter and arson.

Motive: “Murder”
However, the Public Prosecution Service now assumes murder. According to the current state of the investigation, the suspect would have had no other motive than to murder the victims, spokesperson Büchner announced.

This satisfies the murder characteristic of ‘lust for murder’. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the arrest warrant against the doctor was extended accordingly by an investigating judge. According to Büchner, the 40-year-old has not yet responded to the accusations.
