There was a fire at the Salzburg Airport Center on Thursday morning. In addition to the professional fire brigade of Salzburg, the fire brigades Wals, Viehhausen, Großgmain, Fürstenbrunn and Siezenheim are present. The fire broke out in a connecting corridor between DM and the outlet center.
Alert level four has been declared: “Fires requiring more than two fire engines, for example fire on an agricultural site, fire on an industrial estate, etc.”
The DM headquarters, McDonalds and surrounding buildings were evacuated as quickly as possible. The first people had to be taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.
The fire has now been extinguished and follow-up work is underway, district fire chief Klaus Lugstein announced in response to a ‘Krone’ request. Two respiratory protection teams are still working to clear any embers.
In total, there are approximately 150 emergency services on site. After the evacuation, the buildings should be released again soon.
With an area of 200,000 square meters, the airport center in Wals is the largest commercial complex in western Austria. It includes a shopping center with 44,000 square meters of space.
