Istanbul police said a terrorist attack on a courthouse was prevented on Tuesday. The suspected attackers, a woman and a man, are dead.
According to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, the two belonged to the left-wing extremist DHKPC, which has committed attacks in Turkey in the past. Six people were injured, including three police officers, Yerlikaya wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
The court has often been the scene of armed attacks
The minister thanked the police officers for their efforts. Video on social media showed people fleeing into the building in panic, while gunshots could be heard outside the building. A police helicopter circled above the building.
The courthouse had been the scene of armed attacks in the past. In 2015, a prosecutor was murdered in the courthouse after the DHKPC took him hostage.
