Peter Turrini celebrates his 80th birthday on Thursday. A personal look at the literary world figure from the small town of Maria Saal in Carinthia.
Stormy: That was his arrival on earth and on stage. Turrini’s mother Elsa wrote the first in 1985: “It turned out that another child was on the way. We were hoping for a girl who, according to the medical examination, would arrive in mid-October 1944. But Peter was in a hurry. He was born on September 26 during a stormy autumn night. I wanted to go to the hospital, but the farmer’s wife from the Kupferschmid persuaded me to give birth at home. There was always an air raid siren in Wolfsberg. Because of the storm, there was no light that night. During the birth I had to be very quiet because my two-year-old Hans was sleeping in the cradle. Peter was a very peaceful child and laughed at every opportunity. Even though we did not know the reason.”
