On Friday there was another accident with a paraglider in Tyrol. This time, a 54-year-old resident was injured when he fell to the ground from a height of about ten meters in the Zillertal.
The Austrian left around 10.30 am from the starting area Penkenalm in Schwendau for a training flight. As the police announced, the paraglider suffered a gust of wind shortly afterwards, causing the pilot to rapidly lose altitude. A parking facility ultimately spelled disaster for the 54-year-old: he fell about ten meters and ended up in a meadow.
Eyewitnesses provided first aid to the victim and called 112. The ambulance helicopter “Heli 4” then took the injured person to the university clinic in Innsbruck.
Accidents again and again while paragliding
He is not the first paraglider pilot to end up in hospital in Tyrol this year. Also this week, a 61-year-old pilot was injured when he had to make an emergency landing in the Zillertal. A 62-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his pelvis and legs in another crash in Wildschönau at the end of May.
