Hereditary entrepreneur – ORF contribution for your company? “Then I’d rather lock it.”

Date:

An entrepreneur from Mostviertel (Lower Austria) wants to defend himself against ORF contributions for his company. He even threatens to close his company (where radio is banned) if he is ordered to pay by the court.

“It can only be a mistake,” thought Markus Abel, head of a metalworking shop in St. Valentin in the Amstetten district, when he received a letter from ORF-Beitrags Service GmbH to the company. He is asked to pay the ORF fees for his company.

“Double tax”
“My workers and employees, just like me, already pay them at their home address. “I will certainly not pay an unjustified double compensation in the company,” says Abel, who also cites another reason that speaks against a transfer: “In my production company it is not allowed to turn up the radio for safety reasons.”

If the payment request persists, the Mostviertler announces drastic measures: “I will contest this in court. If the judge rules against me, I will close my company. Then our politicians will have to be responsible for more unemployed people!”

New regulations
But Abel’s chances appear slim, because the new ORF contribution law stipulates that from this year, establishments for which local taxes were paid the previous year must pay the compensation. The amount depends on the total salary. There are only exceptions if a private individual is registered at the address of a company, in which case only the company pays.
