Major alarm for ten fire brigades in the south of Burgenland: Early on Sunday morning a fire broke out in the home of a pensioner. The resident was rescued. Initial reports said she suffered smoke inhalation and had to be flown to hospital by emergency helicopter.
The members of the fire brigade in the Krobotek area of the Jennersdorf district probably imagined the first Sunday of Advent differently. The alarm bells were already ringing around 7:30 am. A fire was discovered in a pensioner’s home in the village of 300 residents, and thick, life-threatening smoke quickly spread.
Patient in hospital
When the sirens sounded, 110 comrades rushed to help. The 78-year-old resident was rescued in time. A Red Cross team provided first aid. With suspected smoke poisoning, the patient was flown in the C16 rescue helicopter from Oberwart to the Styrian state hospital in Fürstenfeld.
Drone in use
Two hours after the fire broke out, the emergency services were able to give the green light. The fire was under control, it was reported early Sunday morning. Using the thermal imaging camera at the South drone base in Pinkafeld, embers were detected and extinguished. Around 9.30 am the report ‘fire was out’ came.
Look for cause
Special police investigators were still looking for the cause of the fire on Sunday. The fire brigades of Krobotek, Henndorf, Jennersdorf, Eltendorf, Maria Bild, Mogersdorf-Berg, Mogersdorf, Rax-Bergen, Rax-Ort and the crew of the “Operation Drone South” of the city fire brigade Pinkafeld successfully completed the operation.
