After attacks in Carinthia, a shocking incident now takes place at a Krampus run in Bruck an der Mur (Styria): a 34-year-old participant from Lower Austria was deliberately attacked and injured by a spectator on Saturday.
In a message on Facebook, “The Loretto Devils” are looking for witnesses after the incident during the Krampus Run on Saturday in Bruck: “Unfortunately, one of our members was injured by a spectator during our home run and had to go to the hospital,” says chairman Helmut Pichler in an interview with the “Styrian Crown”.
“What coward would do something like that?”
The woman suffered serious head injuries when her mask was ripped off her head by what witnesses described as an ‘older man’. “She has to wear a neck brace and has been put on bed rest. “What coward would do something like that?” Pichler is shocked. The masks are also secured at the back with snowboard bindings. “You have to dress well,” said Pichler, who is happy that nothing more happened to the mother of a small child.
The injured 34-year-old has now reported the incident to the police in Gloggnitz (Lower Austria), who have transferred the case to their colleagues in Bruck. It is hoped that insights will be gained from the city’s surveillance cameras.
The chairman of Krampus does not know whether he can or wants to continue. “It would of course be a shame, all 24 groups that participated were enthusiastic and would like to come back. But we want to have fun and not get injured.”
He wonders why the man did that. “If someone doesn’t like these runs, they shouldn’t go. But he can’t just attack and hurt someone.” And Pichler is also convinced that despite the disguise, the attack was targeted: “You could clearly see that it was a woman. No confusion!”
