A 55-year-old fraudster sentenced to 16 years in prison in Italy has never returned to prison after his release. In Austria and Germany the damage will probably have caused several hundreds of thousands of euros.
During a prison release, a 55-year-old Italian did not return to prison but instead fled abroad as a self-described “soft fraudster”. The runaway has now been arrested in Villach. Following a complaint in which the fraudster did not pay for two apartments, officials conducted several investigations.
Vehicles leased and brought to Italy
“In the course of this, it was discovered that within a week three vehicles had been registered in the name of the Italian citizen and taken to Italy,” police said: “In Italy an investigation was initially launched into the person to whom the lease contracts had been issued. negative and it was possible to determine that the ID presented was advertised as stolen and wanted in Italy.”
After further investigation it was determined that the Italian was in Wr. During interrogation the true identity was clarified. The man stated that he was a “soft fraudster” and that until his arrest he had financed his livelihood through various scams in Germany and Austria. “After consultation and checking his alias details, it was determined that the 55-year-old is currently wanted for approximately 200 similar crimes in Germany. The amount of damage currently known in Austria is several hundred thousand euros. The damage in Germany will probably be many times greater.” Investigations continue and the 55-year-old is currently in custody.
