All stop signs don’t help: collisions continue to happen at unrestricted intersections on the Zillertalbahn, and that happened in Zell on Tuesday.
At 2:15 p.m., the 43-year-old Belgian driver drove his car in Zell am Ziller from Zeller Straße towards Gemeindestraße, crossed the level crossing at Unterdorf and faced the Zillertalbahn train towards Mayrhofen.
The engineer warned
The 38-year-old driver tried in vain to warn the car’s driver of the train’s approach by honking, but the collision still occurred.
The driver suffered a shock
While all passengers on the train and the driver were unharmed, the Belgian went into shock and was taken to the Schwaz district hospital for further medical examination. The car was significantly damaged. There was no damage to the train and the journey towards Mayrhofen could therefore continue.
