A 24-year-old tourist was looking for a supposedly idyllic location for her yoga session, but underestimated the rocky area there. On a rocky stretch of coast near the Laad Koh viewpoint on Koh Samui, their sporting session was fatal.
A tragic yoga session on the Thai island of Koh Samui ended fatally for a 24-year-old Russian tourist. As video footage shows, the young Russian woman parked her red car at the Laad Koh viewpoint and took her yoga mat to a rocky area below the viewpoint.
The weather conditions made the search difficult
Surveillance cameras filmed how a huge wave suddenly pulled the woman from the rocks into the sea. Eyewitnesses watched helplessly as she fought for her life in the waves, which were up to three meters high. Despite immediate warning from the rescue services, the search had to be called off after 30 minutes due to increasingly dangerous weather conditions.
The unpredictable monsoon weather had previously led to jet ski operators removing their vehicles from the beach. The head of the Samui Rescue Center Chaiyaporn Subprasert emphasized the existence of warning systems on all beaches of the island and urged tourists to be careful, especially in high-risk areas. “Although the incident site is not a swimming area but a viewing point, the victim may be surprised by the unexpected waves,” said Chaiyaporn Subprasert.
Young couple planned wedding for winter
Tragically, the young woman’s body was discovered a few hours later on Chaweng Noi Beach and identified by her fiancé. The couple planned to get married in mid-December. In response to the incident, authorities closed access to the rocky area below the viewpoint.
