US emergency services have no hope of finding alive a 64-year-old woman who fell into a hole in the ground in Pennsylvania.
“Unless some miracle happens, this is now a recovery operation,” said Steve Limani of the Pennsylvania State Police.

They are very certain that the woman is in the hole, but due to the oxygen supply and conditions there, it is now believed that she is no longer alive.
Granddaughter waited in the car
Authorities believe the woman fell into a suddenly opened hole in the ground while searching for her lost cat on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday evening, emergency services discovered the woman’s vehicle behind a restaurant. In the car they found their five-year-old granddaughter, who was unharmed.
Officers then found the hole in the ground, which was about the size of a manhole cover. It is probably the entrance to an old mine shaft, a legacy of intensive coal mining. According to the information, the hole reaches a depth of about ten meters and expands under the Earth’s surface.
