A violent earthquake is currently keeping the American state of California in suspense. The authorities warn of a tidal wave.
The seabed off the coast of California started shaking on Thursday evening (CET). As the US authorities announced, the earthquake reached a magnitude of 7 and occurred at a depth of ten kilometers in the Pacific Ocean, about a hundred kilometers from the coastal town of Ferndale.
The tsunami warning now affects much of the Pacific coast north of San Francisco.
The civil defense campaign ‘Listos’ was alarmed: “If you are near the coast after an earthquake, you may have to evacuate as soon as the earthquake stops.”
Authorities in San Francisco said: “A series of powerful waves and strong currents may be impacting coastlines near you. You are in danger. Stay away from coastal waters. Now move to higher ground or inland.”
