Damascus occupied – Syria: Now Assad’s luxurious palace is being looted

Date:

Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad has disappeared and his regime has fallen. The head of state lived in luxury, while poverty reigned in many parts of the country. Now his abode in Damascus, or rather its contents, becomes the object of desire…

Ceilings, floors and columns of marble, furniture with gold decorations, luxury items and a garage full of expensive cars: while there is poverty in many places in Syria, ruler Assad led a life of luxury.

Beautiful palace as an object of desire
Now his residence in Damascus is becoming an object of desire, with photos on social networks showing people posing in the beautiful palace – and even letting go of one or two pieces.

A video shows Assad’s well-stocked garage, with one luxury car after another. The living rooms are furnished with expensive furniture, paintings, chandeliers and there is also a gigantic flat screen television. Other shots show entire families strolling through Al-Rawda Palace with children and taking selfies.

Syrian rebels had previously taken control of Damascus almost without a fight and forced Assad to flee after more than thirteen years of civil war. What happens next is unclear.

Rebel leader arrives in Damascus
The leader of the Islamic militia Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Abu Mohammed al-Golani, arrived in Damascus on Sunday, according to the fighters.

Al-Golani previously announced in a television statement that the group was determined to continue on the path it embarked on in 2011. You can’t go back. “The future is ours.” In 2011, Syria saw an uprising against the decades-long rule of the Assad family, which was suppressed and culminated in a civil war.
