The police have received several tips about the body, which was buried in a Viennese cellar about 25 years ago and discovered in April. These are checked by the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department. On Tuesday, police published photos of the 30-year-old man’s clothing and asked for public support.
The teeth of the unknown corpse are well preserved, but identification has not yet been made. The only thing that is certain is that the slim man, about 1.70 meters tall, was the victim of a violent crime and was wearing a red jogging suit.
Body discovered by construction workers
In April, construction workers during renovation work in an old building on the Hundsturm discovered a strong odor in a basement room. There they found a body wrapped in a plastic bag, with its head cut off, and alerted the police.
They searched the building extensively and determined that the man had died due to outside influences. Police said the body showed stab and laceration wounds to the arms and hands, indicating a possible defensive struggle.
Police are asking for more information
The exact killing method remains secret for tactical reasons. The police are asking the public for information that fits the known facts. People to whom the perpetrator(s) have entrusted something are also asked to come forward.
Relevant information can be passed on anonymously to the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department on 01-31310-33800 or to a police station.
