A particularly prominent legacy from the Signa bankruptcies – the unfinished Elbtower skyscraper in Hamburg – appears to have been saved. The Hamburg construction contractor Dieter Becken must conclude an agreement with the curator and take over the Elbtower construction site. This is intended to complete Hamburg’s tallest building.
About a month ago, the curator of the Elbtower in Hamburg’s Hafencity remained confident that he would be able to present a new investor for the building under construction in the autumn. Torsten Martini said at the time that negotiations were underway “with a handful of interested parties” from home and abroad, including foreign consortia and German bidders. “If the purchase contracts were signed in the autumn, the purchase could be completed at the end of the year.”
The anchor tenant is a museum
According to “Hamburger Morgenpost” a detailed purchase agreement will be drawn up soon; the anchor tenant will not be a bank or insurance company – but a natural history museum on a third of the surface area. There could also be a hotel and an even larger tenant. By 2030, the building could be Hamburg’s first skyscraper. Confirmations and more concrete details were still open Friday afternoon.
According to a newspaper report, Becken is a renowned real estate entrepreneur in the Hanseatic city. He built, among other things, the Berlin Arch at the Berlin Gate, the police headquarters and the Deichtor Center.
Lamarr department store sold
The shell of the Signa Lamarr department store on Mariahilfer Strasse in Vienna was recently sold. That’s where the Viennese real estate entrepreneur Georg Stumpf struck for 100 million euros. Completion is reported to require 200 million euros. In addition, there are 390 million euros in liens from banks.
Other properties from the bankrupt René Benko empire are also said to be about to change hands, such as the luxury Park Hyatt hotel in Vienna.
