Construction of the basic tunnel – tunnel drill “Flavia” reaches the Brenner

Date:

The last Italian tunnel drill has reached its destination. “Flavia” has traveled a distance of 14.3 kilometers since April 2019. She also mastered a difficult interference zone.

The last of the three tunnel drilling machines in the H61 Mauls construction has successfully completed the propulsion of the western main tunnel tube. This completes the propulsion of train pipes in the Italian project area. Flavia started in April 2019 and controlled a distance of 14.3 kilometers.

Arrival as a milestone
A milestone, such as the two BBT SE -Internates Gilberto Cardola and Martin Gradnitzer, explain: “With the arrival of the TBM Flavia, the mechanical propulsion on the Italian BBT project page is successfully completed.” Alessandro Marottoli, BBT project manager for the Baulos H61 Mauls, adds: “After Serena and Virginia, Flavia is now also at its destination”.

The tunnel boring machine not only drove a long tunnel section, but at the same time 65,000 ready -‘s concrete parts, the so -called Tübbinge, installed for the inner switch of the tunnel.

Control even difficult disturbing zones
In April 2023 there was a stopstill about 3.5 km for the Brenner. “Due to the high overlay of more than 1200 meters and the low strength of the rugged rock, the mountains pressed the TBM and blocked the propulsion,” explains Stefan Skuk, geologist of BBT SE. Flavia can be put back into use after various start -up attempts.
