Heroines of the Day – Missing 4 Hours by the Lake: Father and Son Rescued

Date:

Tamara Putz (23) and Magdalena Neumann (22) from the water rescue team at Lake Traunsee are the Upper Austrian heroines of the day. They landed two exhausted swimmers, who would have taken an hour to land – and one of them was already worried.

“My son has been at the lake with his father for four hours and he is not coming back” – a Romanian sounded the alarm at the Bräuwiese in Traunkirchen. The two men – the father is about 50 and the son about 30 years old – wanted to swim across the two kilometer wide Traunsee without swimming aids or other equipment.

“We had boat service and drove off straight away. Finding two heads in the middle of the lake is not that easy,” Tamara of the water rescue service reports in the “Krone” interview.

“Bring a clearly visible swimming aid”
But it worked. Father and son – the son lives in Wolfern, the father in Vienna – were grateful. Although they were already on their way back, they were exhausted and had an hour of swimming ahead of them. “If you go further from the coast, at least take a clearly visible swimming aid with you,” the helpers advise.
