Two tankers are in distress due to a storm in the Kerch Strait between Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Putin’s forces, and Russia’s Krasnodar region. According to the Kremlin, oil has leaked from a badly damaged ship, several sailors have fallen overboard and one person is dead.

The two ships are the tankers “Wolgoneft 212” and “Wolgoneft 239”. Russian authorities said the “Volgoneft 212” had run aground. There would have been 13 to 15 crew members on both ships.

Thousands of tons of fuel oil loaded
According to Kommersant newspaper, the tanker Volgoneft 212 loaded approximately 4,300 tons of fuel oil. According to the authorities, there was an oil spill. “As a result of the accident, oil has leaked,” the shipping authority said.

According to its own information, the shipping authority sent two tugboats and two helicopters to the scene of the accident. The evacuation and measures to clean up the oil spill were underway.

The Kerch Strait connects the Sea of ​​Azov with the Black Sea. In the region, the Ukrainian military also repeatedly attacks Russian naval vessels and supply ships carrying supplies to the Russian invasion forces.
