Paramedical training – more first aid “for dead people” than in an ambulance

Date:

According to reports from “Krone”, something is going on in paramedic training in Upper Austria, but it still does not escape criticism. Better knowledge of first aid is needed in the “morgue” than in the ambulance, and stakeholders criticize the lack of transparency in the training of paramedics.

Emergency paramedic is the magic word when it comes to rescue in Upper Austria. They have more powers and must relieve the emergency physicians. According to an evaluation by “Gesundheit Österreich GmbH”, only 217 of the 9,420 paramedics in Upper Austria have completed this additional training – that is 2.3 percent. This puts our state in penultimate place behind Burgenland (2.2 percent). Styria leads the way, where 15.4 percent of paramedics have undergone emergency training.
