Eight years ago, a woman traveled to Hurghada to start a new life with her online love. But things turned out differently: instead of wallowing in the happiness of love with her so-called dream man, the man locked the woman in an apartment for two months, abused and raped her. Now the 37-year-old has been convicted in Germany.
After the young German’s martyrdom, the man was sentenced to five years and three months in prison by the Munich Regional Court. He was found guilty of multiple rapes, serious bodily harm and serious deprivation of liberty and must also pay his victim more than 40,000 euros in compensation.
Captured and raped
The woman traveled to Hurghada on the Red Sea about eight years ago to build a life with her alleged internet love. But instead she went through two months of painful hell.
Persecutory anxiety and panic attacks
According to the indictment, the woman was only released on March 17, 2017 by the Egyptian police and with the help of the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA). The 33-year-old, who testified behind closed doors, continues to suffer from the crimes today, is nervous, has become socially withdrawn and has fear of persecution and panic attacks.
“It took her about a year before she dared to go outside again,” said the chairman. “The actions resulted in their trust being damaged.”
