A house manager who stayed in her own nursing home and was cared for by her staff is likely to be busy in the state parliament for the foreseeable future. The SPÖ demands clarification from the Social Provincial Council.
It was a cry for help by e-mail with which the employees of a nursing home in southern Upper Austria addressed the public: As reported, according to the letter, the house manager had billeted herself in a nursing bed in her office after a stay in hospital and had her own staff take care of her for several weeks.
Home supervisor intervened
The email said a line had been crossed, but neither the social welfare organization nor anyone else helped — until the public asked for help. After that, the state’s home supervisor “carried out an inspection visit and this stopped,” says county social councilor Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (ÖVP).
But that is not enough for the SPÖ. She has not experienced such conditions in her decades of active work as a nurse, says red nurse spokeswoman Gabriele Knauseder: “The excruciating processes must be fully clarified,” she demands. Specifically, the social service must make the report of the home supervision public so that the allegations can be investigated. If that doesn’t happen on Thursday, she will submit a request from the state parliament to Hattmannsdorfer.
