A driver died on Tuesday afternoon after an accident in the Korneuburg district. The 73-year-old may have driven his car off the highway because of microsleep. The pensioner eventually succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The car broke through a wildlife fence, overturned and came to rest on its driver’s side in a field. The pensioner was flown to St. Pölten Hospital, where he ultimately died from the severity of his injuries.
The passenger was slightly injured
According to police, the driver’s passenger suffered minor injuries. The 67-year-old passenger was treated at Tulln University Hospital, officials said Wednesday. After the accident around 3:30 p.m., one lane towards Stockerau remained closed for about an hour and a half.
