The ‘Krone’ contains a photo showing an apparently drunk employee of the magistrate in Wels with a mustache as worn by Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. The photo was allegedly taken during a party attended by hundreds of city hall employees.
This year it was during the Wels magistrate’s summer festival at the Wels town hall in early July. At a late hour, employees apparently had the brilliant idea to photograph one of the officers with a stuck-on Hitler beard, while a colleague also trimmed his side parting in the style of the Nazi criminal. Other employees can be seen in the background of the photo.
Photo circulated in the magistrate for months
This image then circulated in the magistrate for months and was now also passed on to the Welsh Initiative against Fascism (Antifa). “A civil servant at an advanced age must know, even after a few beers, that it is abhorrent to act as a criminal against humanity,” says Antifa chairman Werner Retzl indignantly. “As the photo shows, he wasn’t the only one who enjoyed it.”
City boss Andreas Rabl (FPÖ) knows the photo, but did not want to comment on it at the request of “Krone”, but referred to municipal director Peter Franzmayr as a contact person. And he confirms that he became aware of the photo just a few days after the incident. “There was a suspicion of dereliction of duty, so I opened an investigation.”
Officers were questioned about the incident
The person pictured and other officers still visible in the photo were questioned about the incident. “The employee involved justified himself by saying that he was already so drunk at that moment that he did not even notice that the beard was stuck to him.” His colleagues also confirmed that the man was anything but sober.
Franzmayr points out that the festival’s motto was “Mexico” and many visitors came with glued-on mustaches. “Unfortunately, it was not possible to find out who cut this beard like this, nor the person who made the parting.”
I had to undergo alcohol counseling
The employee’s responsibility seemed credible to him. In any case, the officer received a disciplinary reprimand and also had to undergo alcohol advice. “He completed this one.”
In September of this year it was already known that a high-ranking lawyer for the magistrate of Wels allegedly shouted “foreigners out” and gave the Hitler salute at a wedding party. However, an internal magistrate’s proceeding was soon halted. The Public Prosecution Service is still investigating.
