Serious accusations in Upper Austria: Students had to kiss shoes and kneel

Date:

Serious accusations against a youth gang in the Traunviertel: Nine boys and girls are said to have tortured and beaten children in and around a secondary school. Four of the suspects were not yet criminally liable due to their young age, but charges were filed against three boys.

Head and foot bumps, children had to kneel or kiss their shoes: the Public Prosecution Service (StA) in Wels does not make these serious accusations against violent criminals with multiple previous convictions, but previously innocent 14- and 15-year-old milk boys. They are said to have caused fear and terror at a secondary school in the Traunviertel between autumn 2023 and September 2024.

Four suspects are criminally responsible
Ten suspects were investigated; a 14-year-old and two 15-year-olds were ultimately charged with criminal damage, actual bodily harm, false statements, coercion and dangerous threats. Two girls and two boys in the gang were under the age of 14 and therefore criminally liable. An observant suspect was given a diversionary maneuver and had to perform community service.

Grandpa confronted the leader
Due to lack of evidence, further proceedings were stopped. According to StA Wels, this is the grandfather of one of the victims. He allegedly confronted a youth gang leader, after which he claimed that his grandfather had grabbed and injured him.

Leaving school out of fear
The machinations have left their mark on many classmates. There are officially ten victims, including six young boys. One child reportedly left school out of fear and needed psychological care, while another was unable to attend classes for weeks.

Blind destructiveness
The municipality and a housing association also act as victims, because the suspects also gave free rein to their destructive behavior towards buildings and vehicles. The StA says that, for example, they smashed the window of the fire station and cut open bus seats.

According to the Directorate of Education, the situation at the affected secondary school has now calmed down.
