After the tanker accident in the Black Sea, a captain was taken into custody for two months. He is said to have violated maritime transport safety and operating regulations. As reported, two tankers had an accident last Sunday during a storm in the Kerch Strait.
One crew member was killed. At the time of the accident there would have been 13 to 15 crew members on the tankers “Volgoneft 212” and “Wolgoneft 239”. According to a video, a tanker broke in half and half sank. The crew had to wait several hours before they could be rescued.
The ships are said to have loaded more than 9,000 tons of heavy oil, of which more than 3,000 tons are believed to have leaked into the sea. Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke in a televised question-and-answer session about a catastrophe and environmental damage.

He ordered the oil spill to be cleaned up in several phases. Oil barriers would have to be built, which has not been possible so far due to the weather, said Venjamin Kondratiev, governor of the Krasnodar region. The oil must then be quickly removed from the coast. Later, a plan will be needed for the spring, when the oil rises from the bottom.
According to Kondratiev, more than 5,000 emergency services and volunteers are on site to clean up the oil spill. About 860 tons of oil have been collected so far.
