The Bishop of Feldkirch’s Christmas wish this year is quite big. In addition, giving and receiving gifts is basically something fun. Bishop Benno Elbs sees the attention as symbols of care and love.
“Kron”: How have you experienced the Advent season so far?
Benno Elbs: It was a very intense time for me. On the one hand because I am responsible for two dioceses, and on the other hand because for me the main theme of Advent was ‘encounter’. As a psychologist, I know that winter is a very sensitive time. People’s hearts are open to encounters. But you also feel what hurts more: sadness, loneliness, not being allowed to belong. So I thought about who I could make happy with a visit in the run-up to Christmas and went to hospitals, social centres, retirement homes and prisons. I like it too, but it takes a lot of time.
