Last minute rescue! After a heart attack with violent ventricular fibrillation, a “Krone” reporter owes his life to many helpers. Paramedics and emergency physicians had to resuscitate the patient dozens of times before he could undergo surgery.
This happened far too quickly, even for a frenzied reporter who often has to act spontaneously. “Krone” photographer Christian Schouder from Deutsch Kaltenbrunn was still working in the new “Star Jump” hall in Oberwart on the evening of November 28 and posted a funny short video of his heavy acrobatic jumps on a state-of-the-art trampoline via Facebook, but shortly afterwards he experienced the most dramatic moments of his life.
“My body went crazy”
“On the way to the car I had an uneasy feeling. I lit a cigarette and for the first time I didn’t like it,” says the 55-year-old. During the journey he felt staccato hot and cold.
Hot, cold, hot, cold – it went on, the situation got worse. “I had a strange, tight feeling in my upper stomach. “I happened to drive past the clinic in Oberwart,” says the reporter from “Krone”.
16 kilometers later he stopped in Ollersdorf to get some fresh air. “It didn’t help, I could barely stand on my legs.” The 55-year-old made it to neighboring Stegersbach. He stopped opposite the former police station on Grazer Strasse.
Happy coincidence of fate
Our reporter called the Red Cross ambulance service on 14844, not via the emergency number 144, but – as usual in his work – and complained about his suffering. Fortunately, Burgenland is the only state where all wires come together in the State Security Center (LSZ), with the exception of the police.
The rescue chain immediately went into full swing. Christian Schouder then called his wife, who rushed to help with their son and daughter-in-law. “I saw the blue lights of an ambulance in the rearview mirror as I leaned way back in the driver’s seat,” the heart attack patient recalled.
The blue light was very close for an operation. This case was resolved quickly and the emergency doctor arrived at the 55-year-old “Krone” employee just 90 seconds after the alarm.
Long life saving
Our reporter had to be resuscitated again and again – a total of 12 times until he landed at the Lower Austrian hospital in Wiener Neustadt after almost 2.5 hours for an operation with the C17 from Styria. His conclusion after surviving two operations: “I am infinitely grateful to all the helpers and rescuers!”
