The Kremlin has confirmed the launch of a massive attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on the morning of December 25.
In the early hours of December 25, Russia launched a massive attack with more than seventy missiles and a hundred drones on Ukraine’s power grid and energy system.
“Today Putin deliberately chose Christmas Day for an attack,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on his social networks, referring to the Kremlin leader.
Zelenskiy has reported that as a result of the Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, “there are power outages in several regions” and that they are working to restore power as soon as possible.
“What could be more inhumane? More than seventy missiles, including ballistic missiles, and more than a hundred attack drones. The targets are our energy system. They are still fighting to cause a power outage in Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
Several regions were on alert overnight for cruise missile launches, and several thermal power plants were attacked, energy company DTEK said, noting that equipment damage was reported, without providing further details.
The regions affected by the ballistic missile launches are in eastern Ukraine. They are Poltava, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkassy, Khmelnitsky, Ternopil, Vinitsa, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Kharkov.
