Christmas without water: For hundreds of households in Spielberg, Upper Styria, this scenario became a sad reality on St. Stephen’s Day.
The reason was a burst pipe of the main water pipe along Spielbergstrasse (L503). The problem occurred at the entrance to the Eichenring and had serious consequences.
A test of patience for the population
The fire brigade spent hours during the holidays restoring the water supply. The community asked the many affected people for patience and understanding. City crews and firefighters worked desperately to repair the damage.
Up to three-quarters of Spielbergers are without water
After the outbreak around noon, almost the entire community was initially cut off from the water network – until three-quarters of all households were affected. During the afternoon, the situation improved, at least for some residents of the community.
The broken pipe was loosened with an excavator and replaced by employees of the municipal water company. However, extensive coverage was only possible in the evenings.
