Tenants of the Karl-Seitz-Hof in Vienna-Floridsdorf feel ridiculed: the private operator of the adjacent underground parking garage offers ridiculously low compensation in lieu of repairs for the daily climb of up to seven floors.
The ‘Krone’ report on the garage next to the Karl-Seitz-Hof in Floridsdorf, where residents have to walk seven floors because the elevators have been broken for months, caused a stir – and has now finally provoked a response from the operator – But one that makes the tenants of the garage spaces feel like they are being fooled.
Tenants pay themselves a cut by raising rates
Garage operator BOE is now offering tenants in a letter not the long-awaited repair of the elevators – one has been broken since 2014 (!) – but 20 euros in compensation for climbing stairs every day. “We feel mocked,” complains Ms. Hopodides, one of those affected. Moreover, the tenants of the camping pitches had only been informed a few days before “about an increase in the monthly amount to more than 115 euros”.
In a statement, BOE denied any blame: “The lift motor was seriously damaged by the heavy rainfall. We immediately ordered the repair. According to information from the responsible elevator company, essential parts were not in stock or available and had to be produced separately. Unfortunately the elevator was out of use for a long time.” However, the underground parking garage has been causing problems due to groundwater since its construction.
Water damage is common in the garage and to make matters worse, the elevator motors are installed on the bottom floor and are therefore twice as susceptible to damage. The garage tenants can now at least hope that one of the elevators will be repaired. “The responsible elevator company promised us that the necessary parts and repairs would be delivered by the end of January,” BOE promises. So it’s still a month of sweating.
